“I remember training for the first race in '77 (can it be that long?). We'd get together after work---Jim Cardillo, Don Sanford, the O'Dells, Vidio DeRubertis. None of us had run much before and here we were, getting ready for a 7 mile race that was just 2 months away. Somehow we all survived. I had trouble walking downstairs for a week afterwards. Maybe it was those Converse All-Stars I was running in. Since then I've been fortunate to experience some of New England running's most hallowed places; from the thin air of Mount Washington, to the ocean breezes of Falmouth, and the history and tradition of Heartbreak Hill in Boston. But there's no place I'd rather be than taking the final turn onto West Street, through that tunnel of sound, with Hawk doing his "running rap", crossing that line one more time.”
-Leo Kulinski, Jr.,

"The LHRR is not a race…it is a weekend event! It is all about renewing old friendships and creating new ones. It is about fun, laughter and camaraderie. All of this just happens to be wrapped around a 7 mile race on a hot June day.
The best time I ever ran in the race, was the worst time I had during race weekend. I did not participate in much on Saturday night in preparation. Sunday, I pushed myself so hard that I didn’t really have fun that night at Beverly’s.
I learned a lot that year and never again let the race interfere with “race weekend”."
